The Vulture Photography project celebrates and supports the work of South African theatre-practitioners. We showcase and feature various aspects of the South African Theatre industry, from stage productions to awards ceremonies and festivals. Accompanied by Performing arts Photography, the project aims to give our readers a descriptive and visual experience of the local theatre industry.
JEREMEO LE CORDEUR
THEATRE-MAKER | PERFORMER | PHOTOGRAPHER
Jeremeo Le Cordeur is a seasoned arts and entertainment professional with over a decade of experience in several sectors of the cultural and creative industries in South Africa and abroad. He hails from the Boland town of Wellington in the Western Cape and has served in various capacities since graduating from City Varsity’s School of Media and Creative Arts in 2008.
His professional expertise ranges from writing and directing award-winning productions, to capturing the world of performing arts through his camera’s lens. In 2021, Jeremeo also took his writing and information-gathering skills to the next level as KC 107.7’s morning news anchor.
His professional prowess has not gone unnoticed, has earned him multiple awards and participation in several prestigious programmes over the last decade. These include directing a curated show at the 2021 National Arts Festival (NAF), Antie Wi’oekal, and participating in the 2020 Jakes Gerwel Foundation and PEN Afrikaans residency programme. Jeremeo was also part of the 2018 European Voluntary Service exchange programme in the UK.
In 2021, his video production Ouma Lilly en Haar Klong featured on DSTV in the Toyota US Wordfees after receiving a prestigious 2020 Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award at the first online digital NAF. Another noteworthy accolade is the NATi Rising Star Award at the 2019 Suidoosterfees for Jeremeo’s vibrant storytelling in two monodramas. He collaborated with Ian van der Westhuizen and Dan van der Ventel to not only write but also perform in the monodramas — Jerry, an Unconventional Hero and Dude, Wa’s My Bakkie? — which were offered as a double feature at Suidoosterfees and other festivals.
As a professional who is adept at a variety of roles, Jeremeo currently works as an independent contractor. In addition to those related to the performing arts, his recent projects have involved applying his skills in writing, photography, voiceovers, and multimedia editing – to name a few.
